Hopeless Romantic

Who wants some coffee? It is exactly 6.07 pm when I open this book to see what is hidden beneath the pages. Its freezing cold so I make a cup of coffee and put on a bowl some popcorns that the girl next door brought me. What do you know about popcorns apart from the fact that they pop while being cooked? Carl Tanzler is a queer character, he’s got a twisted mentality as they put it. His inability to let go of things is beyond human understanding. Pack your snack and board with me to this land of unthinkable. Put on a warm jacket and carry your inhaler. Tanzler was an Austrian-born physician who lived a relatively normal life until 1931 when he fell head-over-heels in love with a young tuberculosis patient named Maria Elena Milagro de Hoyos. Elena, a 22 year-old Cuban-American woman, was taken to the hospital where Tanzler worked in Key West, Florida. Tanzler was captivated from the moment he laid eyes on her. As a child, Tanzler had visions of a stunning, dark-haired woman who was de

If Tomorrow Comes

The other day I was reading about man flu. It wasn’t a random read like it was with the "late Peter’s" story. It was a writer whose stories I read quite often. There was a man with man flu. I was wondering if man flu also qualifies as an illness. An exaggerated cold... ? Alongside the man flu story was another embedded; a tragic short story. It left me wondering how too much life can be for someone.  I haven’t left my father’s house yet, I still have a bedroom at the furthest end of the house. Whenever the dogs bark at night it hits my ears first before it lands on the rest of the family’s. Sometimes I ponder, the world within vs the outside world, and I feel like I’m not ready.  I know that’s lily-livered, a man dies in the battle field. A man dies trying. Out in the cold, in the wilderness at the claws of man-eaters. Nevertheless, a man needs help too. When life becomes too cruel a man goes back to his family to rejuvenate. To his wife or to his mother. I would still go b

Last Breath

Ahem, so I just woke up in the middle of the night, carefully and cautiously put aside the hands of the 'she' holding me. I felt like doing a random read. I like reading random things in the middle of the night when out of the blue I wake up, more often I make amazing discoveries.   I reached for my phone and typed “something to read” the result was, 23 life-changing things you can read right now. I was not in the sulks of changing my life at 2 am in the morning. What’s even there to be changed? That didn’t tickle my fancy so I kept on wandering… poking my nose into everything that seemed interesting. In the furthest corner of the internet, I met Margaret Howe. Something heaved me to her, the picture. She was an amazing lady, I could tell, sceptical and curious like a ten years old me. She was pretty as pretty could be. Her third name was Lovatt, her bizarre relationship with a dolphin during a NASA-sponsored experiment makes her one of history's strangest characters.

The Photograph

Every story has two sides. Truth only one, but at times both! A radiant smile smeared his countenance that day as he walked into the university for admission. He was flanked on both sides by his parents and was tugging along his bulky suitcase. To him this was a dream come true and to his parents, heaven. Their first born son had made it to campus to pursue a degree in Law. What more could a parent want? Theo scanned the surrounding. He let his eyes graze the environment. The tenderly trimmed flowerbeds and green lawns with luggage sprawled on it. He took one ponderous sweep of the opposite bench. What he saw re-affirmed his teacher's remarks that University has variety. Quickly, he selected the best out of them and put a bounty on their heads. University life was good. That's considering things other than the frequent financial hostility. He utilized his newly-acquired freedom to the fullest. Partying. Dating. Drinking. All the stuff you do in campus. You know these things rig
