Mom in a trolley

On Saturday afternoon I was in a mall. I was there with a nosy friend of mine I had bumped on. She asked if I could walk her to Naivas to pick some stuff for her daughter. I didn't hesitate. She's someone you wouldn't mind walking with. She's funny. Your day wouldn't remain the same if you bumped on her.

We dived from one shelf to another and after ten minutes we had picked nothing from the shelves. At the opposite shelves we noticed a woman with a three year old young daughter in her trolley. Okay I guess she was three, I didn't ask her mom.

As they passed the shelves the child started crying for some candies  and her mom told her no. She started to whimper and yell. The woman then  said discreetly, "Presently Kate, we simply have half of the walkways left to go through; don't be vexed. Soon!"

In our shopping basket was one pack of diapers. Shopping with women is not an easy task. It's even harder if you're their man. Lucky me. You have a testimony if you've tried this. They don't know what they want to buy, even with a shopping list in their hands. They will still ask you which toilet cleaner should they buy next if the one they have gets finished six months later. Waaah !!

I was more drawn by the woman and her child. I guess she had noticed my eyes were all over them. I wasn't sorry anyway. They were amazing. I felt like I should go and tickle the baby.. abujubujuu

Before long they came to the toys walkway, and her daughter started crying for some. What's more, when told she could never have any, she cried even more. The mom said, "There, there, Kate, don't cry-just two more walkways to go, and afterward we'll be out"  it was amazing how then her daughter would then go silent.

Rose had now taken her shopping seriously at least and had her basket almost full. My friend was Rose. Rose for rose flower.

The woman got to the counter. We were right behind them now. Kate  the poor daughter  started to cry for chocolates and burst into a horrendous tantrum after finding out there'd be no chocolates bought. The mother calmly said, "Kate, we'll be through this counter in a short time and afterward you can return home and have a decent rest."

By the time they were getting out, we were done and were a few strides behind them at the parking. I was carrying the shopping. Rose hurried and called her, "hey mom"  she praised her. "I couldn't resist the urge to see how patient you were with little Kate, my daughter is just as stubborn as her. I can't stand her" she said. I was now closer to them I said hi to her. She gave us a warm smile and  said, "I'm Kate . . . my daughter's name is Sheila.

Rose looked at her as if she didn't get her right. She then looked at me, blushed and bursted into a loud laughter. The woman laughed too and headed to her car. I was still processing what I heard. This wasn't funny for real but I laughed so hard. Who gets fooled on a sweet Saturday afternoon ?

Half a head

There were thin and bleak sounds, noises that were either real or imaginary. A sound of a wild bird in distress from a far, an owl maybe or a cardinal, accompanied by what sounded like uneasy movement and groaning noises from within. Those unnerving noises that make you believe hell is real and the damned has flung the gates open. He was in the police cell, the cell had huge shelves and guys were sleeping on the floor like they always do. You might have met this somewhere; you might have heard of it from the walls of your sitting room or the streets. It is a tale of this guy Boniface Kimanyano Ayoti, an epic face of crime, larger than life. A guy whose weakness was crime. Anything criminal triggered something in him. Something that not only made him content but also put him in a zone where nothing else could. Even though it can’t tell it all, Bonnie’s face is a tale of crime. Before you hear a word from him you know he’s not been an average human being. He has a swelling just above

The Holy Studio

I met Philip Mutemi in the streets of wanderlust diaries. He wrote a piece that caused stir and led to a lot of fuss. If you know the wanderlust diaries you're safe. You may actually go to heaven if Christ comes today. His display picture is of a man seated with arms crossed in what looks like a pub. A man probably past middle age. Looking at him another time, I feel like he has four children. Again looking at him, he doesn’t look like in 2014 he was 20 years old, I mean he almost looks older than my father. He honestly couldn’t be 30 right now. All these observations I made because of how some people in the comment section threw stones at him. So, Philip claims that back in 2014 his 3 cousins, 4 neighbours and himself were to join campus. They were given money to go and buy laptops. What is campus life without a laptop? The next Monday early in the morning they were in Nairobi. There was one cousin who was street smart and managed to convince them the he was well acquainted wi

He keeps chicken and milk his father’s cow on a good day. On a bad day he goes to a nearby dusty arena to play football, to see if his knee could have possibly changed its idea about chemistry. Ten minutes into the  game he becomes a living testimony that his knees were actually meant to stand long hours in the chemistry lab doing tests and mixing chemicals to see colour changes, precipitates and what have you that don’t excite me.
