The Ghetto kids

In the Katwe slum of Kampala, Uganda, in 2014, a young guy by the name of Daouda Kavuma saw a group of three children who would perform for the people in exchange for fruits or a few cents. only three at the time.

Daouda discovered that these children never had a place to call home and did not attend school. They subsisted on the fruits and cash that their audience gave them. Daouda was moved by their predicament and decided to take them in, provide for them, feed them, and train them.

He gave the children the name Ghetto Triplets, then changed to Ghetto Kids, and enrolled them in a nearby school. Later, he discovered that other children in Katwe were experiencing a similar situation to them. At that point, he contemplated filing Ghetto Kids as an orphanage.

The three founding members of their group—dance, theater, and music—were symbolized by their original moniker, Ghetto Triplets. Kavuma utilizes dance to help the kids have fun, but his main objective is to provide them an education so they can have a better future.

The group gained internet fame after appearing in Eddy Kenzo's music video for "Sitya Loss." They simply performed a random dance, which was seen by Kenzo, who decided to put it in his video. One of the East African songs with the most views on YouTube was the video for this song. About 51 million views.

The trio has also drawn praise from American musicians P. Diddy and Nicki Minaj. In 2017, the group appeared in the video for French Montana's Unforgettable, which helped to launch their success in the country.

The group has performed in Chicago, Illinois, and Paris, where they appeared at halftime of Paris Saint-Germain's home match against Reims at the Parc des Princes. Before the game, they also had meetings with PSG players including Kylian MbappΓ©. They also appeared at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

They received Bruno's Golden Buzzer for their performance on Britain Got Talent  a few days ago.

Dauda had no money to support the orphanage when he began it. He housed them at their family's home despite making funding applications and presenting ideas that were all rejected. He had to pay for their food, education, and medical care out of pocket as well as through donations from friends and family.

Ghetto kids have today attracted a huge number of organizations and individual sponsors who are prepared to collaborate with the orphanage because of their talent and popularity. There are 30 children in the Ghetto Kids, all orphans or rehabilitated street kids.

He keeps chicken and milk his father’s cow on a good day. On a bad day he goes to a nearby dusty arena to play football, to see if his knee could have possibly changed its idea about chemistry. Ten minutes into the  game he becomes a living testimony that his knees were actually meant to stand long hours in the chemistry lab doing tests and mixing chemicals to see colour changes, precipitates and what have you that don’t excite me.
